Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement with Andoni Iraola to take over as head coach following Arne Slot’s dismissal.
Iraola left Bournemouth at the end of the season and is the clear favourite for the position at Liverpool.
According to The Athletic, external Iraola is expected to sign a two-year contract.
Throughout his managerial career, Iraola has preferred short-term contracts with Cypriot side AEK Larnaca, Spanish clubs Mirandes and Rayo Vallecano, and Bournemouth.
The 43-year-old Spaniard wants to bring Tommy Elphick and Shaun Cooper, his Bournemouth assistants, to Anfield as part of his coaching staff.
Bournemouth are yet to have any formal contact from either Elphick or Cooper regarding their futures.
Liverpool are eager to make an appointment as soon as possible and seek a manager who suits their preferred playing style, which is front-foot, attacking football.
Elphick, a lifetime Liverpool fan, has received no communication from the club but would be interested in the possibility.
The former Bournemouth centre-back, 38, declined the opportunity to become Bristol City manager last week in order to consider his other alternatives.
Richard Hughes, Liverpool’s sporting director, is leading the hiring process at Anfield, having previously worked with Iraola at the Cherries.
The Reds fired Slot on Saturday, a year after he led them to the Premier League triumph.
