Cultists have reportedly killed a man known as Taiwo Saheed in the Atan area of Ogun State, with video of the killing spreading across social media.
Chronicle NG gathered from witness accounts and a video of the incident on Monday that the killing, which took place on Thursday, was believed to have been carried out by members of the outlawed Eiye Confraternity in what was alleged to be a reprisal attack.
The distressing footage showed Saheed lying in a pool of blood while one of the attackers repeatedly hit him with what looked like a machete before cutting off his head.
Other members of the group were seen cheering and ululating as the assault went on.
In an exclusive reply to a query from our correspondent on Monday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed the incident and said investigations were being stepped up to arrest those responsible.
He said, “The Ogun State Police Command is intensifying investigations into the murder of Taiwo Saheed in Igbo Olomi, Atan-Ota, on 15 October 2026.
“Proactive efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, unravel the circumstances of the incident, and ensure justice is served.”
Atan has seen incidents of violence linked to cults in Ogun State.
In April, the command arrested four suspected cultists for alleged assault, armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, and the theft of an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The suspects were named as Samson John, 25; Olufowora Michael, 28; Odeh Samuel Ejeh, 25; and Olajide Jeremiah, 28.
Their arrests came after a report was filed at a police station at about 11.30pm on April 16, 2026.
