Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has denied proposing a N80,000 minimum salary for state and local government workers.  The rejection came after allegations circulated online that the governor had committed to paying the stated amount. The Nigeria Customs Service’s Zone A Federal Operations Unit in Ikeja, Lagos, stated on Thursday that it had apprehended 150 cartons of bulletproof jackets valued at N1.687 billion. Kola Oladeji, the Customs Area Controller in charge of the unit, told journalists in Ikeja that the contraband was caught on the Ijebuode-Sagamu Motorway in Ogun State. Oladeji added that each carton contained ten packs of the jacket and that the contraband was seized in June. The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) was struck by tragedy when some unidentified students and a shuttle driver were involved in a tragic auto crash outside the school’s main gate, resulting in the death of a student.  Chronicle NG gathered that it was a single collision involving people on the campus shuttle on Thursday. The National Assembly will get an executive bill on the new national minimum wage on Tuesday, following an agreement reached between President Bola Tinubu and labour groups on increased worker pay.  The President, the Nigeria Labour Congress, and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, led by their presidents, Joe Ajaero and Festus Osifo, respectively, decided on N70,000 as the new national minimum wage at their meeting on Thursday at the Aso Presidential Villa in Abuja. Nigerians have sternly condemned the increase of the new minimum wage to N70,000 by the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government. A group of dissatisfied People’s Democratic Party women protested at the PDP’s National Secretariat, accusing the party’s National Working Committee of insulting and exploiting members.  The protest came after the NWC called a meeting that did not take place because no committee members showed up. Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has expressed shock over a fire that killed the daughter and two siblings of Yusuf Kofar Mata, the Commissioner for Higher Education.
