Former Anambra state governor and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi, has resigned from the party. In his resignation letter dated May 24 and addressed to the party chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, Obi did not state specifically why he is leaving the main opposition party. President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the killing of a pregnant woman, Harira by members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has withdrawn from the Enugu state governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The UK government has approved the £4.25bn takeover of Chelsea by a consortium led by LA Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly. Nineteen young children and two adults have died in a shooting at a primary school in south Texas. The gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary School – which teaches children aged seven to 10 – in the city of Uvalde before he was killed by law enforcement, officials said. The 18-year-old suspect had a handgun, an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle and high-capacity magazines, Texas investigators say. The teenager is suspected of shooting his grandmother before the rampage.
