Hulk Hogan, the towering icon who transformed professional wrestling into a global spectacle, has died aged 71 after suffering cardiac arrest at his Florida home.

Born Terry Gene Bollea in Augusta, Georgia, Hogan became the face of World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in the 1980s, captivating millions with his bandana-clad charisma, booming voice, and the unmistakable chant of “Hulkamania.”

His death was confirmed on Thursday morning after emergency responders rushed him from his Clearwater residence. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, the WWE Hall of Famer was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Only days ago, his longtime friend and manager Jimmy Hart assured fans that Hogan was “doing phenomenal” and had even participated in karaoke earlier in the week. His wife, Sky, also dismissed recent rumours that he was in a coma following neck surgery.

The sudden nature of his passing has shocked the wrestling world and legions of fans around the globe.

A Giant of the Ring and Pop Culture

Hulk Hogan’s rise to superstardom redefined wrestling as sports entertainment. With his signature moves, larger-than-life persona, and headline-grabbing rivalries with the likes of André the Giant, Randy Savage, and The Ultimate Warrior, Hogan carried WWF (now WWE) into mainstream popularity during the 1980s and 1990s.

His success wasn’t limited to the ring. Hogan starred in several films and TV shows, and his name became a brand, synonymous with power, loyalty, and American heroism. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005 and again in 2020 as a member of the notorious NWO (New World Order) faction.

However, Hogan’s career was not without controversy. He was temporarily removed from the Hall of Fame in 2015 following leaked recordings containing racist remarks. He later sued media outlet Gawker over the publication of a private tape and won a landmark lawsuit.

    Family, Legacy and Mourning

Hulk Hogan is survived by his wife Sky, daughter Brooke, and son Nick. His family has not yet issued an official statement.

Tributes have poured in from across the wrestling world, with stars and fans alike remembering Hogan as the man who put wrestling on the map. WWE released a short statement, calling him “a cornerstone of sports entertainment and one of the most recognisable icons in global pop culture.”

As fans mourn the loss of their hero, one thing is certain: the legacy of Hulk Hogan will live on in the hearts of millions who believed in the power of the 24-inch pythons, vitamins, and never giving up.
