Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has rescued six kidnapped victims from bandits in the Ejiba and Saminaka forests in Kogi’s Yagba East Local Government Area.
Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, the Brigade’s spokesperson, stated this on Tuesday in Lokoja.
Abdullahi explained that the operation was part of the Nigerian Army’s continuous efforts to combat banditry and kidnapping in the region.
He explained that the operation, which included synchronized air and ground offensives and help from a Nigeria Police aircraft, resulted in the victims’ interception.
According to him, the bandits abandoned the victims due to continued military pressure.
“Five of the rescued individuals have been reunited with their families in the Egbe and Ejiba communities, while the sixth is receiving medical attention,” he said.
The Brigade reassured the public and Kogi residents that the Army remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
“Troops will continue to intensify operations, dominate the forests and identified hideouts, and deny criminals the freedom of action,” he said.
Bandits had on Sunday attacked a Cherubim and Seraphim church during service in the Ejiba Community and kidnapped the pastor and several worshippers.
