The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has instructed its state and local government area chairmen to start gathering and harmonizing party agents for the upcoming 2027 general elections, granting them two weeks to turn in final lists for the party leadership to approve.
In a statement signed on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party instructed all state and LGA chairmen to urgently hold meetings with candidates and other relevant stakeholders in order to collate and harmonize the list of agents.
Director clarified that the directive was given in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
He noted that two distinct sets of agents would be put together: one for the National Assembly elections and the other for the governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
The NDC stated that the party leadership, including its presidential candidate and running mate, would review and ratify the lists before training begins.
The party also directed that the final lists must be counter-signed by the state chairmen and the respective candidates in order to authenticate the nominations and establish ownership.
It added that in cases where disagreements emerged between party leadership and candidates regarding the selection of agents, the candidate’s choice would take precedence.
The statement read in part, “That State and LGA Chairmen shall meet with candidates and stakeholders to generate a comprehensive list of two sets of party agents: those for national assembly elections and another set for governorship/state assembly elections.
“These party agents shall be scrutinized and ratified by the party’s leadership, including the presidential candidate and his running mate, before training commences.”
The director assured NDC members and supporters that its structures were in place for the campaign.
“The leadership of the party wishes to reassure all members, supporters, and stakeholders that the National Democratic Congress is fully prepared and ready for a robust, issue-based campaign, with all necessary structures firmly in place for victory,” he said.
