Temisan Okomi, a Nigerian sports broadcaster, has died after a brief illness.
Classic FM, the radio station he worked with for over 12 years, announced his death in a social media post on Friday.
“With the heaviest of hearts, we regret to announce the passing of one of our staff, Temisan Okomi, following a brief illness,” the statement reads.
“Until his passing, Temisan was the Group Head of the Sports Department. He was a valued member of our team whose contributions and presence will be deeply missed.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this most difficult time.”
Okomi was a veteran in the Nigerian sports journalism industry with decades of experience. He worked with the defunct High Television (HiTV), a digital satellite television service, during its short stint of airing live European football matches to Nigerian audiences. He also had spells with Lagos Television (LTV) and several other broadcasting companies.
He joined Classic FM in 2014 and rose to become the organisation’s Head of Sports before his demise.
Okomi was a graduate of Agronomy and Crop Science from the University of Uyo before his transition into journalism.
He is survived by his wife, Veronica, and three sons.
