The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will unveil its National Campaign Council on Monday and publicly disclose its statement of account as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The party will undertake both activities during its third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, scheduled for 10 am at JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja.
The NDC’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, disclosed this in a statement dated October 23, describing the planned financial disclosure as a demonstration of the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
According to the statement, the party’s National Treasurer will present its statement of account at the meeting.
The NDC also challenged other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to adopt similar transparency in managing their finances.
“For the NDC, it is no longer politics as usual,” the party declared.
NDC Offers Free Forms to Candidates
The party attributed its financial challenges to the economic hardship in the country, claiming that about 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford Expression of Interest forms.
It said it responded by providing the forms free of charge to affected candidates, citing widespread poverty, hunger and deprivation.
The NDC blamed the situation on the policies of the APC-led government, arguing that the economic conditions had made it difficult for some aspirants to meet the financial requirements for participating in the political process.
Party to Present Certificates of Return
Beyond the financial disclosure, the NEC meeting will feature the unveiling of the NDC’s National Campaign Council, which will coordinate campaigns for the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.
The party will also present Certificates of Return to its candidates for their respective offices.
The unveiling comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with campaign structures expected to coordinate candidates, mobilise supporters and communicate party programmes to voters.
The NDC said it was prepared to offer Nigerians what it described as altruistic leadership, reaffirming its slogan: “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
