Manchester City sealed their place in the Champions League knockout round play-offs with a 3-1 comeback victory against Club Brugge at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite falling behind to Raphael Onyedika’s strike just before halftime, the Premier League champions responded emphatically in the second half.

Goals from Mateo Kovacic and Savinho, along with an own goal from Brugge’s Joel Ordonez, ensured Manchester City’s progression into the top 24 of the revamped league format.

Liverpool, meanwhile, suffered a 3-2 defeat to PSV Eindhoven but still finished top of the table ahead of Barcelona, who were held to a thrilling 2-2 draw by Atalanta.

Arsenal, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, and Bayer Leverkusen all secured their spots in the last 16 with crucial victories.

The Gunners faced a tough test against Girona but emerged with a 2-1 win, thanks to goals from Jorginho and teenage prodigy Ethan Nwaneri after Arnaut Danjuma had given the Spanish side an early lead.

Lille and Aston Villa claimed the final two automatic qualification places for the last 16 with emphatic wins. Lille thrashed Feyenoord 6-1, while Villa overcame Celtic 4-2 in an entertaining clash.

Atalanta narrowly missed out on a top-eight finish but secured a seeded spot in the play-offs, finishing ahead of heavyweights Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and AC Milan.

Paris Saint-Germain also advanced to the play-offs after a dominant victory over VfB Stuttgart, who were eliminated following Sporting CP’s draw with Bologna.
