The Federal Government has proposed a harmonised 2027 examination timetable, with the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scheduled for March and results of major secondary school examinations targeted for release by August.
The proposed timeline is intended to enable eligible candidates to begin tertiary admission processes by September 2027.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced the proposed timetable on its social media platforms on Thursday.
Proposed 2027 Examination Timetable
Under the proposed schedule, the UTME will hold from March 15 to 25, 2027, while the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination is scheduled for April 1 to May 14.
The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), is proposed for May 11 to June 18.
Meanwhile, the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) examination is scheduled for June 1 to July 5, while the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) examination is proposed for June 10 to July 9.
The government is targeting August 2027 for the release of results from NECO, WAEC, NABTEB and NBAIS.
Why the Government Proposed a Harmonised Timetable
According to JAMB, the Federal Government is working with examination bodies to align their schedules and ensure the timely release of results.
“The Federal Government is working with examination bodies to align the 2027 examination timetable and ensure the timely release of results, enabling eligible candidates to begin tertiary admission processes by September 2027,” JAMB said.
The initiative is designed to minimise examination timetable clashes, improve coordination among examination bodies and speed up the processing and release of results.
It is also expected to help eligible candidates begin tertiary admission processes by September 2027.
JAMB Issues Important Notice to Candidates
JAMB stressed that the dates remain proposed timelines and should not be treated as final examination dates.
The board urged candidates to monitor official announcements from the relevant examination bodies for confirmation of the schedules.
Candidates are therefore advised to rely on official updates before making examination preparations based on the proposed dates.
