Yusuf Kofarmata, a Kano State Commissioner, has resigned his position as a member of the State Executive Council, alleging a departure from the political ideology that propelled the current administration to power.

Kofarmata announced his resignation in a statement on Sunday, saying it was made in good faith and guided by conscience.

“I hereby resign my appointment as commissioner and member of the Kano State Executive Council. I cannot continue to work under a government that has derailed from the ideology that brought it to power,” he said.

The former commissioner, who previously served in the Ministries of Tertiary Education and Science, Technology, and Innovation, expressed gratitude to the leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party and significant political personalities for the opportunity to serve.

He notably acknowledged the NNPP national leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and Kwankwasiyya movement followers for their assistance during his tenure.

“I remain grateful to our national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the people who stood with us throughout the journey,” he said.

Kofarmata reaffirmed his support for the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement, saying, “Long live NNPP, long live the Kwankwasiyya movement.”

His resignation comes amid increased political tension in Kano State as a result of Yusuf’s recent departure from the NNPP, which sparked a wave of resignations and political realignments among appointees and party officials.

In recent days, some Kwankwasiyya-aligned officials and stakeholders have left or distanced themselves from the state government, claiming ideological differences and anxiety about the administration’s political future.

Kofarmata’s departure highlights the growing internal friction in Kano’s political environment as alliances for the 2027 national elections evolve.
