The national welterweight boxing champion, Stanley “Edo Boy” Eribo, has vowed to defeat Tanzania’s Meshack “Smart Boy” Mwankemwa, his opponent in the African Boxing Union (ABU) welterweight title bout at GOtv Boxing Night 10.

The event, which will hold on 26 December at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos, will feature six other fights, including the West African light welterweight title bout between Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi of Nigeria and Ghana’s Raphael “Iron King” Kwabena King.

In a brief interview, Edo Boy has dismissed the status of his opponent, who is a national champion of Tanzania, stating that Smart Boy will be defeated at all cost.

“I don’t care whether he is the national champion of Tanzania or Japan. What I know is that he will be defeated. Nigeria needs the African title and I need it too. We are bigger than Tanzania and I will prove it by beating Meshack.

“To be honest, that guy stands no chance as fans will see. I am in camp and training like it is my last ever fight. I just want Nigerians to come in their thousands to cheer me on that day.” He said

The Fijabi/ King West African title bout has the biggest potential for explosion, notably through the longstanding Nigeria/ Ghana sporting rivalry and recent challenge clash between both boxers at GOtv Boxing Night 9, when Fijabi defeated King by a split decision. King, naturally, is seething and has vowed to defeat his Nigerian opponent.

In another light welterweight clash, Rilwan “Baby’ Face Babatunde” will take on Sikiru “Omo Iya Eleja” Shogbesan. Two lightweight clashes are on the cards, one of which is the potentially combustible third meeting between Oto “Joe Boy” Joseph/ Prince Nurudeen Fatai. Joe Boy won the two previous fights, one of which was the one in which took the title from Fatai.

The other lightweight battle will see the exciting Rilwan “Real One” Oladosu against Prince “Lion” Nwoye.

The featherweight category has national and West African champion Waidi “Skoro” Usman paired with Dare “Fighting Machine,” former national champion, while Kabiru “KD Godson” Towolawi will slug it out with Felix “Man Mopol” Igwe in the light heavyweight category.

The best boxer of the evening will go home with N1.5million cash and the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial trophy.
