The remains of Nollywood actor Quadri Oyebamiji, well known as Sisi Quadri, were interred on Saturday in his birthplace of Iwo.
Chronicle NG reports that the actor died on Friday while being admitted to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso.
According to reports, the actor’s body was transported from Ogbomoso to Iwo late on Friday, and prayers were held in an open field near his home before his burial.
Following prayers seen by a large gathering of community residents, colleagues, and well-wishers, his remains were buried in front of his residence in Iwo’s Agbowo Area.
Toyin Olaiya, the immediate past governor of the Association of Nigeria Theatre Art Practitioners in Osun State, told reporters that Oyebamiji became ill while working at a location.
Olaiya, the leader of Sisi Quadri’s first theatre group in Iwo, said he had no idea the deceased’s death was imminent when he learned of his sickness.
He said, “Sisi Quadri was indisposed and admitted to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, where he eventually gave up ghosting on Friday.”
“I discovered him (late Quadri). He joined my group in 1996. It was shocking to hear of his death. I was told he took ill and was brought back from his location earlier this week. That is not new to us as theatre practitioners. People can become ill and get treated.
“When I heard of his illness, I told some of his contemporaries that trained under me to visit him. I was told he has been moved to a private medical facility in Iwo for treatment. I never thought it would result in death.”
