The widow of late Nollywood star John Okafor, also known as Mr. Ibu, has asked Nigerians for help, stating that she and her children are struggling to pay rent, school fees, and other basic necessities.
The appeal was made during a video chat with content producer King Mitchy, in which the actor’s wife and children discussed the family’s living situation after his death.
Speaking passionately, the widow stated that the family had been without electricity for almost two months after their power supply was withdrawn due to unpaid payments.
She also disclosed that their financial status forces them to rely on well water.
“We fetch water from the well. Because I have not paid the house rent. And they have even cut my lights for two months now. No lights since. We have been like that. Every night we go to look for a place to charge our phones. And… It’s not easy,” she said.
One of the actor’s children complimented her mother for keeping the family together despite their difficulties.
“I want to thank God for my mom. She tries everything she can to feed us, to pay our school fees, to make us happy,” she said.
The widow further stated that her children were at risk of dropping out of school due to unpaid tuition.
“Right now, they can’t go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today,” she said.
According to the content producer who performed the interview, assistance is being sought to help the family pay school fees, settle rent, and restore power to their home.
Mr. Ibu, one of Nigeria’s most prominent comic performers, passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62.
