Davido, the Nigerian Afrobeats singer, says he is stepping away from Nigerian politics, describing the political landscape as “evil”.
The 33-year-old singer made the remark on X while reacting to a post by Dayo Israel, the All Progressives Congress (APC) national youth leader, who outlined factors he believed contributed to the party’s defeat in the Osun governorship election.
Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle and candidate of the Accord Party, was declared the winner after securing 511,067 votes to defeat Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, who polled 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 17,180 votes.
Israel credited Davido with playing a major role in youth mobilisation during Adeleke’s campaign, saying the singer used his influence, networks, music and digital reach to connect the campaign with young voters.
He also claimed Davido brought artistes, influencers and other young voices into the political process.
Davido, however, rejected the claim.
The singer said he did not bring anyone into Osun to support the campaign and insisted that he backed his family without assistance from his colleagues in the entertainment industry.
“I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own!! You guys are ruthless and disgusting! Eeewwww! I have done my job! Nigerian politics is evil, and I don’t want to be a part of it till God helps us!”
Davido’s latest comments come months after he announced his intention to enter politics and join the Accord Party in December 2025.
He later expressed concerns that a move into governance could negatively affect his music career. He was subsequently appointed head of youth mobilisation for Accord during his uncle’s re-election campaign.
The singer has also previously declared that he would never support the APC.
His latest political remarks come amid a separate exchange with House of Representatives member James Faleke following Adeleke’s victory.
Davido had accused Faleke and two other APC lawmakers of attempting to influence the election outcome, alleging that they were trying to “upturn the election result”.
Faleke denied the allegation, saying he had no power to influence the outcome and comparing his presence in Osun to Davido’s support for his uncle.
Davido subsequently responded with a swipe at Faleke’s political career.
“Politics is not a career. Get a Job!”
Davido later congratulated Adeleke on securing a second term as Osun governor.
