Chaos erupted in Atan-Ota, Ado-Odo-Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State, on Sunday, following the murder of a man known simply as Moses by suspected cultists.

A resident of the village, who spoke to the press on the condition of anonymity due to the delicacy of the situation, claimed that members of the Aye Confraternity hacked the victim to death.

One of the horrific videos obtained by Chronicle NG on Monday shows the alleged cultists repeatedly slashing the victim’s right wrist with machetes while mumbling in pidgin, “We are the ones in charge.”

Moses was seen lying face down, apparently unconscious, as several cutlasses descended on him.

Another graphic video showed the lifeless body, with a horribly damaged wrist, surrounded by mourners who wailed his name.

“Moses, my God,” one of the grieving cried out in Yoruba.

According to reports, the incident is related to an ongoing power struggle between competing cult organizations in the area.

In a message on Monday, Chief Superintendent of Police Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, simply answered, “Yes,” when questioned about Moses’ death.

While the state has seen fewer cult-related fights in recent years, the homicide adds to the growing list of deaths attributed to cult violence in the Southwest.

In neighboring Lagos State, for example, over ten persons were brutally murdered in cult-related attacks in less than ten days.
