Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani says the All Progressives Congress (APC) would consider it a failure if any opposition candidate secures 25 per cent of the votes in the state during the 2027 presidential election.
Sani made the statement during an interview with TVC on Sunday, expressing confidence that Kaduna would deliver a higher share of votes for President Bola Tinubu.
“In Kaduna state, allowing any candidate to even get 25 percent of the votes is a failure on our side,” he said.
The governor attributed his confidence to federal government projects and interventions in Kaduna over the past three and a half years, arguing that residents should reciprocate the support by voting massively for Tinubu.
Sani Predicts Strong Support for Tinubu
The governor recalled that APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda had projected that the North would deliver 70 per cent of its votes to Tinubu.
Sani said Kaduna would deliver an even higher percentage, citing federal government investments and ongoing infrastructure projects in the state.
He also commended Tinubu for handing over Ahmadu Bello Stadium to the Kaduna State Government. According to the governor, plans are underway to rebuild the facility into a 33,000-capacity stadium that meets FIFA standards.
Kaduna Road and Rail Projects
Sani highlighted the reconstruction of the 123-kilometre Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road, which he said had been abandoned for more than 40 years. He added that N178 billion had been released for the project.
The governor also thanked Tinubu for the ongoing reconstruction of the Zaria-Soba-Kambuwa Road and the proposed Kaduna metropolitan light rail project.
According to Sani, $865 million had been approved for the rail project, while China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, the contractor, had received $300 million in mobilisation funds.
Governor Lists Federal Universities in Kaduna
Sani also cited the expansion of federal higher education institutions in Kaduna as evidence of the administration’s interventions.
He listed the upgraded Federal University of Education, Zaria; the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia; and the proposed Shehu Musa Yar’Adua University of Petroleum Studies in Kaduna.
He also mentioned the conversion of Kaduna Polytechnic into a federal university of technology.
The governor said these projects and other federal government interventions should encourage residents to vote massively for Tinubu in 2027.
Sani Criticises Opposition Campaign Strategies
Beyond infrastructure, Sani criticised opposition parties for concentrating on social media attacks against the APC rather than engaging voters through rallies and town hall meetings.
He singled out the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for what he described as its efforts to reach voters directly, while questioning the campaign strategies of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“If you are campaigning to win elections, you have to go out and meet with the people,” he said.
“The only party that I see reaching out through town hall meetings, other than our party, is probably APM. I’m surprised. I have seen them going round. But you cannot say the same with ADC and NDC.”
Sani also accused opposition parties of using artificial intelligence and doctored images to criticise the ruling party on social media instead of engaging voters directly.
“We are the only party that is reaching out, talking to the people. So, whether the opposition decides to come together or not, it’s not our business,” he said.
The governor’s remarks come as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections, with campaigns and debates over governance, infrastructure and voter engagement expected to shape the contest.
