Geraldo Alckmin, Vice President of Brazil, and his wife, Maria Lúcia Alckmin, arrived at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Tuesday to kick off the second session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism.
The high-profile visit marks a watershed point in Nigeria’s South-South diplomatic cooperation and is likely to result in substantial policy achievements across a variety of areas.
Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, the President’s Deputy Chief of Staff; Dr Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment; Idi Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development; Senator Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security; and other senior Nigerian government officials welcomed the Brazilian delegation.
Speaking at the airport, Senator Hadejia described the visit as “a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s renewed hope agenda”, emphasising the strategic importance of deepening ties with Brazil.
“This dialogue mechanism represents our commitment to leveraging South-South partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to our citizens,” Hadejia said.
“Brazil’s expertise in agribusiness, energy transition, and industrial development aligns perfectly with Nigeria’s transformation priorities and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The three-day summit will conclude with the signing of over 30 memoranda of understanding in vital sectors such as defence cooperation, agricultural technology transfer, energy partnership, and cultural exchange initiatives.
