The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has hired forensic experts to comb its national secretariat in Abuja for possible bugs planted by the police. The Labour union stated that the forensic security audit would facilitate the return of its workers to their offices following the recent raid by the police. One of Russia’s most active volcanoes has erupted, sending clouds of ash 5 kilometres (3 miles) into the sky over the far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula and temporarily triggering a “code red” alert for aviation.  According to volcanologists from the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Shiveluch volcano began sputtering shortly after a huge 7.0-magnitude earthquake erupted off the east coast of Kamchatka early Sunday. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chastised the Nigeria Police Force on Sunday for allegedly harassing and unlawfully arresting party leaders ahead of the Edo State governorship election on September 21.  The ruling PDP accused the police of colluding with the All Progressives Congress, APC to keep its members out of circulation. Amid the Nigerian National Petroleum Company’s (NNPC) vow to end fuel queues by Wednesday, oil marketers fear the situation may grow worse. Oil marketers reported on Sunday that product loading at depots had not improved; therefore, the scarcity may get worse in some states across Nigeria. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has promised to stop the queues for Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, by Wednesday, after the black market for PMS boomed on Sunday.  NNPC also declared that it did not owe international oil merchants $6.8 billion, as previously reported, a development that some industry observers identified as a main cause of Nigeria’s severe PMS crisis. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has granted permits to Golden Penny Power Limited, MTN Communications Nigeria Limited, Havenhill Synergy, and others to generate mini-grid electricity.  In the first quarter of 2024, the NERC issued nine new off-grid generation licenses with a gross capacity of 109.69 megawatts, as well as three new trade licenses. According to the commission’s report, Golden Penny Power Limited was granted a license to build six off-grid gas plants in Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, and Cross River states. Nigerians have reacted to claims of the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, who claimed that a handkerchief he anointed raised a dead woman.
