Senate President Godswill Akpabio informed Nigerians on Wednesday that President Bola Tinubu’s administration was stepping up efforts to combat insecurity, expressing optimism that the problem would soon be resolved.

Akpabio made the pledge while receiving members of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, led by National President Dr. Lima Ahmed, on a courtesy visit to the National Assembly in Abuja.

The Senate president’s words were contained in a statement released by his special assistant on media, Jackson Udom.

Nigeria has continued to deal with pervasive insecurity, including terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and communal violence, with some states reporting deadly assaults and mass abductions in recent months.

The federal government has often promised to restore security through increased military operations and other actions.

Speaking during the tour, Akpabio stated that the recent rescue of abducted pupils in Oyo State demonstrates the federal government’s commitment to tackling the security situation.

He said, “As Nigerians, we are all aware of the insecurity challenges that we are currently facing. All I can say is that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is giving the situation its utmost attention, and that is what led to the recent release of the school children that were abducted in Oyo State.

“The current administration is doing a whole lot. I can assure you that very soon, the issue of security would be a thing of the past. Don’t rely on what you hear or see on social media. They are not a true reflection of what is happening in our country.”

Akpabio also discussed women’s participation in politics, blaming women’s unwillingness to assist one another during elections on the actions of some female officeholders in the past.

He claimed that the acts of some women who had previously held public office had harmed opportunities for those seeking elective jobs.

The Senate president offered the support of the National Assembly for the next international ladies’ golf competition, which will be held at the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja.

Earlier, Ahmed praised Akpabio for welcoming the group and formally invited him to the event.

The Senate President was also decorated by her as the Grand Patron of the association.
