MultiChoice Nigeria has announced that it will appeal the ruling of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal in Abuja on Friday.  The tribunal fined the company N150 million for not complying with its orders, which prohibited it from raising its monthly subscription until the outcome of a lawsuit Festus Onifade, an Abuja-based lawyer, brought before it was resolved. Additionally, the tribunal ordered the pay-TV company to give its Nigerian customers a one-month complimentary subscription to its DStv and GOtv packages. Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries (MFM) has denied framing former church members Femi Jimoh and Caleb Oloruntele in connection with an alleged planned attack on the church.  This was as the three individuals who testified against the former members in court over the alleged incident told how the two approached them to beg their assistance in hiring a gun to rob the church’s “first fruits” gift in 2008. Governors under the auspices of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) have rejected the proposed N60,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers.  The governors noted in a statement issued on Friday by Halimah Ahmed, NGF’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, that the proposed minimum wage is too high and unsustainable. The NGF voiced concern that if the N60,000 minimum wage is implemented, many states may use their entire Federal Account Allocation Committee allocations for salaries, leaving no funds for development projects. The mother of Alex Timileyin, the Ajayi Crowther University student who was beaten to death by his colleagues, is reportedly in a coma. Her state of health was announced in a statement on Thursday by Lord of Warri, a social media influencer. According to his statement, Princess Antonia Emiko, the bereaved mother, could not bear the tragic loss of her only son. Abia State Governor Alex Otti has increased the N25 million bounty on the killers of five soldiers at the Obikabia junction in Aba to N30 million.  Otti made the announcement on Friday during a visit to Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area, by the state’s Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Hasan Abubakar. Four Indian medical students drowned while swimming in a river in northwest Russia, officials announced Friday.  The incident occurred Tuesday on the Volkhov River in Veliky Novgorod, according to the regional investigating committee. “The students were swimming in an area where bathing is banned,” it said. “Two of them started being carried away by the current, and two others jumped in to save them. The Nigeria Police Force dismissed charges on Thursday that it was conducting a witch hunt against journalists in order to suppress press freedom by enforcing the modified Cybercrime Act 2024.  The Force stated that journalists do not have immunity and that professionals are “criminally liable” if suspected of a crime. ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, has cautioned drivers who abduct police officers and other law enforcement officers while on duty to stop doing so.  Adejobi added that, under no circumstances, this should be the norm. He also stated that drivers who would rather fight or drive away law enforcement officers who violate their vehicles are in serious violation and face harsh penalties.
