Dead-ball specialist Alejandro Grimaldo doubled Leverkusen’s lead with a pinpoint free-kick before Germany winger Jonas Hofmann scored a third to round out the win. Hofmann, who moved to Leverkusen in the summer having…

Hwang Hee-chan grabbed a second-half winner as Wolves stunned Premier League champions Manchester City to pick their first win of the season and end City’s winning streak. Erling Haaland, a free-scoring striker, was given just one opportunity, and City manager Pep Guardiola, who was forced to watch from the sidelines while serving a one-match touchline suspension, was unable to make a difference. Even yet, it appeared as though the visitors would win after Ruben Dias’ early own goal was levelled by Julian Alvarez’s sublime free kick. However, Nelson Semedo’s forward rush sparked a second goal for Wolves, ending a string…
The founder and Chief Executive Officer of Erisco Foods Ltd., Chief Eric Umeofia, says that a powerful syndicate keen on killing his company is behind the “false and malicious’’ social media post against the company. Speaking to newsmen on Saturday in Lagos on the raging Facebook controversy, Umeofia said that the syndicate, whom he identified as importers of tomato paste had been pulling such pranks over the years. “Their ultimate goal is to discourage Erisco Foods as Nigeria’s major local tomato paste maker and force Nigeria to depend on imported tomato paste,’’ Umeofia said. He vowed, however, that he would…
The Taraba State Governorship Election Tribunal has ruled that Agbu Kefas of the Peoples Democratic Party is the state’s legitimately elected governor. The tribunal’s three-member panel of justices ruled that the petition of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and its candidate, Yahaya Sani, disputing Kefas’ election was without substance and so dismissed it. The NNPP and its candidate had filed a case against the PDP and its candidate, Governor Kefas, in the March 18 governorship election, citing corrupt practices, non-compliance with the Electoral Act of 2022, over voting, mutilation of result sheets, and alleged violence in polling units. The…
Pope Francis on Saturday elevated 21 clergymen from distant corners of the world to the position of cardinals, saying diversity was indipensable to the future of the Catholic Church. Under sunny skies and with a crowd that filled half of Vatican City’s grandiose, colonnaded St Peter’s Square, the 86-year-old pope welcomed the new “Princes of the Church” — one of whom could one day become the successor to the current pontiff. “The College of Cardinals is called to resemble a symphony orchestra, representing the harmony and synodality of the Church,” said Francis, seated under a canopy before the gathered cardinals…

Pep Guardiola has challenged Manchester City wingers Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku to prove their worth in his attack. Grealish was a key figure in City’s treble-winning campaign last season, but the England winger has struggled with injuries this season. The former Aston Villa player, who cost City £100 million in 2021, has only recently returned to action after witnessing Belgian youngster Doku thrive in his absence. Doku, bought in the close season from Rennes, provides a different type of threat on the flanks than Grealish, and some City fans have asked for the 21-year-old to start Saturday’s Premier League…
