The Nigerian Army has reported a fire outbreak at its Headquarters complex in Abuja. It attributed the cause of the inferno to faulty electrical installations. According to a statement by the Director Army Public Relations Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima: “Electrical fault sparked a minor fire incident at the Army Headquarters Complex, Abuja, Tuesday morning. “The incident which happened at about 10.15am was as a result of minor electrical fault in one of the offices. Mrs. Grace Ifeoma Adichie (nee Odigwe), the mother of renowned writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, is dead. She was 78. She died on Monday, March 1 2021 in Awka, Anambra State. A family spokesperson said: “It was very sudden and we are devastated.” Her husband, a renowned Professor of Statistics, James Adichie, died last June at 88. Nicki Minaj’s father killed by hit-and-run driver Mrs. Adichie is survived by six children: Ijeoma, Uchenna, Chuks, Okechukwu, Chimamanda and Kenechukwu as well as nine grandchildren, in-laws and many relatives. The family announced that funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

The first batch of AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine has arrived Nigeria. It landed around noon at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport. Almost four million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were shipped via the COVAX Facility, a partnership between CEPI, Gavi, UNICEF and WHO. The vaccine which was manufactured by the Serum Institute of India was flown  from Mumbai to Abuja. Also confirmed were the nominations of Major General Ibrahim Attahiru as Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Agambi as Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Vice Marshal Isiaka O. Gunmen have released girls kidnapped from a boarding school in northwest Nigeria, the governor of Zamfara state said in a message posted on Twitter on Tuesday in which he shared pictures girls wearing Muslim veils. An armed gang abducted 317 girls from the Government Girls Science Secondary (GGSS) School in the town of Jangebe at around 1 a.m. on Friday. The Ondo State Government has suspended the operations of the National Union of Road transport workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) in all the 18 local government areas of the state, with immediate effect.
