At least one person has been killed after gunmen attacked a prison in Owerri, the Imo state capital. According to a BBC reporter, the attack happened around midnight and it is not yet clear if prisoners escaped. One inmate was shot dead while trying to escape and about 30 vehicles inside a police headquarters opposite the Imo government house, were burnt. The identity of the assailants has not yet been confirmed. This is not the first time hoodlums will attack prison officials and their facility in Imo state. The Federal Government will do everything to ensure that security is beefed up in communities affected by recent communal clashes and violent attacks in Ebonyi State, while ensuring justice for victims, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN. The Federal Government has commenced decentralisation of international passports in the 774 local government areas. The process started with inauguration of Passports Express Centre at Maitama District, Abuja. International passports, according to the Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola, will now be available within 24 hours nationwide under the new Maitama Passport Express Centre (MPEC). The Kaduna State Government has vowed to prosecute anyone caught negotiating with bandits or terrorists in the state.
