The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualifies four loyalists of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara from running in the party primaries slated for Saturday, May 16, 2026.
This was included in the final list of aspirants provided by the party and emailed to our correspondent on Friday.
Awaji InombekAbiante and Boma Goodhead, both members of the National Assembly’s Green Chamber, have been disqualified.
Abiante is a prominent Rivers State politician who purchased a governorship nomination for incumbent Fubara.
The party has cleared 21 candidates for the Obio/Apor Federal Constituency primaries, including Speaker of the State House of Assembly Martin Amaewhule. The other two candidates who have not been cleared are Air Commodore John Opera (rted) and Hon. Anderson Igbiki.
Amaewhule is running to replace his kinsman and minority leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kingsley Chinda.
In a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Friday, Chibike Ikenga, the state APC Publicity Secretary, confirmed the list of certified and disqualified aspirants.
The announcement is headlined ‘Final List of Aspirants for the House of Representatives Primary Election on Saturday, May 16, 2026.’
Ikenga stated that the list was provided by the party’s national leadership, and he advised hopefuls to take note and comply accordingly.
The statement partly reads, “You are by this notice informed of the release of the final list of aspirants for the House of Representatives primary election of our great party—the APC—scheduled for 16th May, 2026, as released by the National Leadership of the Party.
“Aspirants are kindly advised to note and comply accordingly.
“This information must be taken seriously in view of the election as scheduled.
“Please find attached the list of aspirants who are cleared and/or not cleared.”
