Americans on Facebook have called on their government to ban social media platform, Twitter, following the decision by the Nigerian government to ban the social media platform indefinitely.

Reacting to the ban on Twitter by the most populous black nation, they urged the US government to take a cue from Twitter, stating that, some regulation is needed.

Chronicle NG reports that Americans have urged the Biden administration to ban the social media platform, arguing that, social media should be regulated.

Caryn Haines Huizen credited Nigeria for understanding the regulation of social media than the US. “It looks like Nigeria understands freedom better than we do,” she wrote on Facebook.

Nicholas Elder believes that the action of the Nigerian government is appropriate in the circumstance. “Nigeria had a more appropriate response than the US,” he said.

Elsewhere, Rob Ray described tech owners as oligarchs. “Prosecute the tech oligarchs, they’re human rights violators,” he claimed.

Francisco Espinoza praised Nigeria for having the confidence to ban the platform. “Well, at least there is one country that has the stones to take on the woke liberal tyrant nerds at Silicon Valley.”

“Maybe that needs to happen here,” Jacob Sonner wrote in response to the ban on Twitter by Nigeria.

Bryan Crabtree reckons that the suspension of the social media platform will bring some checks and balance. “How do we keep in check the corruption and power they hold? I hate the idea of doing it but they need held accountable for the propaganda they push out. Ban twitter, good for them.”
