A 100-level female student of Plateau State University, Bokkos, who was kidnapped by gunmen in the Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, has been released.
The student was abducted on Saturday night at an off-campus residential area within the university community, while another person was shot and injured during the attack.
Confirming the development to journalists in Jos on Tuesday, the Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Masara Kim, said the student was recovered after her abductors abandoned her.
“She was abandoned by her captors after the university, in collaboration with a joint security team, launched an operation that forced them to flee on sighting the advancing team,” Kim said.
He stated that the victim had been taken to a hospital for a medical examination and was currently receiving medical attention.
Kim added that the university was collaborating with security agencies to ensure the safety of students and staff within and around the institution.
He praised the security personnel for their prompt response to the incident.
As of the time this report was filed, the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, Alabo Alfred, had not yet responded to our correspondent’s enquiries about the incident.
