President Bola Tinubu expressed his sympathies to former Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun on Thursday, following the death of her husband, Anthony Adeosun, on Wednesday at the age of 62.

Tinubu expressed his condolences in a statement issued Thursday by his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, captioned ‘President Tinubu condoles with former minister of finance Adeosun’s family over the demise of Anthony Adeniyi Adeosun.’

On Thursday, Rev C. A. Adeosun issued a statement on behalf of the Adeosun family, announcing Anthony Adeosun’s death.

The statement, which was made to the press, was titled ‘Announcement of the passing of Mr. Anthony Adeniyi (Niyi) Adeosun.’

“It is with profound sorrow, yet in total submission to the will of Almighty God, that the Adeosun family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, and brother, Mr. Anthony Adeniyi (Niyi) Adeosun, who was called home to glory on Wednesday, 5th August 2026, in Lagos.

“He was 62 years old. Niyi was a distinguished businessman and a devoted Christian whose integrity, generosity, and steadfast faith touched the lives of all who knew him.

“He lived a life defined by hard work, service to God, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community,” the statement read.

The family sought comfort in God “during this difficult period as we grieve our irreplaceable loss.”

According to the announcement, funeral and Christian burial plans would be announced in due course.

The deceased is survived by his wife, Kemi; his children; and his siblings, including Kuramo Capital founder Adewale Adeosun, among others.

“We thank all who have reached out with prayers, condolences, and support. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace in the bosom of the Lord,” the statement concluded.

Sympathizing with the family, Tinubu noted the outpouring of testimonies on the life and good works of Mr. Adeosun, particularly his dedication to supporting the less privileged, describing him as a devout Christian whose commitment to charitable causes had touched many lives.

“The President condoles with the Adeosun family, friends, and business associates over the loss, urging comfort in the legacies of steadfast faith, community service, and charity that the devout Christian left behind,” the statement read.

Tinubu, therefore, prayed that God would grant the former minister and the Adeosun family strength and comfort during this difficult period and grant the deceased eternal rest.

Kemi Adeosun was Minister of Finance under former President Muhammadu Buhari from 2015 to 2018, and she oversaw the country’s economic policy response to the 2016 recession.
