Nottingham Forest have protested their 0-2 loss against Everton in a Premier League match on Sunday, describing the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) as a Luton fan.

The relegation-threatened club said it had protested the choice of the VAR referee to Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).

Everton beat Forest 2-0 at Goodison Park but the away side believes they were denied three penalties in the game as both teams battle relegation.

In a post on social media, Forest reacted to the loss. “Three extremely poor decisions – three penalties not given – which we simply cannot accept.

“We warned the PGMOL that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. Our patience has been tested multiple times.

“NFFC will now consider its options,” the club wrote.

Everton secured three crucial points when they beat relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest 2-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday to ease their own Premier League survival hopes and move five points clear of the drop zone.

With Everton and Forest being docked eight and four points respectively for financial breaches, Everton are 16th in the standings with 30 points, having played one game fewer than Forest, who sit four points below in 17th place.

PGMOL is yet to respond to the accusation against it by Forest.
