President Bola Tinubu will on Sunday receive the Certificate of Return and party flag of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
This comes after the party’s direct primary exercise, which took place in all 8,809 wards nationwide on Saturday.
According to a statement signed and released on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidential Primary Elections Committee will present the certificate and flag at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja following the nationwide collation of primary election results, which currently show him leading his sole opponent, Stanley Osifo.
Onanuga stated that APC governors, members of the National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee, and the National Assembly, as well as party leaders, are anticipated to attend the event.
Tinubu competed in the primary against Edo State businessman Osifo, the only other contestant to purchase the N100 million presidential nomination form, after a planned consensus agreement fell through.
The presidential primary was held by direct voting in each of the country’s wards, making it the first of its sort in APC history.
It is based on the Electoral Act 2026, which Tinubu signed in February and requires parties to use either consensus or direct primary approaches.
Tinubu voted alongside the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at his Ward L2 polling unit in Ikoyi-Obalende, Lagos, on Saturday. He was greeted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos APC chairman, and other top party members.
He called the exercise “a demonstration of internal democracy” and said he was “very, very satisfied” with how governors handled the process in their states.
After securing the ruling party’s ticket, Tinubu’s official 2027 campaign will begin on Sunday with his presentation.
