Terrorists reportedly killed 13 people in the Ngbra Zongo hamlet of Kwall District, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Several additional occupants were alleged to have suffered varied degrees of injuries during the incident, which took place in the early hours of Friday.
Mr. Philip Alanga, a member of the community, told reporters in Jos that the attackers invaded the hamlet around 12 a.m. and began shooting randomly while hitting inhabitants with machetes and other hazardous weapons.
According to him, the intruders proceeded from home to house during the attack, causing terror and bewilderment among many inhabitants.
“They came into the community around midnight and started shooting and hacking people to death.
“They moved from one house to another, attacking innocent people,” Alanga stated.
He claimed that numerous people were injured, and several families fled into adjacent bushes to avoid the attack.
Another community resident, Mr. Chigoji Rocku, revealed that three of those slain in the attack were pregnant women.
Mr. Danjuma Auta, Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association (IDA), confirmed the occurrence to journalists in Jos, calling the attack unfortunate and condemnable.
Auta condemned the frequent attacks on communities in Bassa Local Government Area and other parts of the state, urging security authorities to increase efforts to protect lives and property in vulnerable rural communities.
He encouraged security personnel to quickly identify those guilty of the attack and ensure that justice is administered in order to avoid future violence in the area.
As of the time of reporting this story, efforts to reach the Plateau State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Alfred Alabo, for comment on the event have been fruitless.
