General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has explained why the Nigeria’s federal government should have rewarded the Super Falcons’ coaches and players with an equal sum following their recent Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph.

Preaching on Sunday during a sermon titled “The Winning Team” at RCCG’s national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos, Adeboye commended President Bola Tinubu for awarding each of the 24 victorious Super Falcons players the sum of $100,000.

However, he urged that their coaches, who were awarded $50,000 each, should have received an equal amount because they guided the team to victory.

“I thank the President for honouring the Super Falcons, but I do not agree that coaches should receive less than players,” Adeboye said. “Without the coaches, the players would not succeed. God bless the coaches—we need them.”

Chronicle NG reported that Super Falcons claimed their 10th WAFCON title in July 2025 after defeating the hosts, Morocco, in a tense final. Their victory was widely celebrated across Nigeria and culminated in a presidential reception at Aso Rock, where Tinubu praised their dedication and announced the monetary reward of $100,000 for each player.

Drawing from his past as a sportsman, Adeboye recounted how a strict coach shaped his character during his boxing days in the 1960s. “Back in 1960, my coach pushed us hard. At one point, we thought we were being trained for war. But today, I thank him. A good coach sees your potential and helps you reach it,” he added.

Highlighting the critical role coaches play, Adeboye noted, “Wisdom is better than strength. You can be strong and still lose. Coaches bring that wisdom. That’s why we must value them.”

He urged Nigerians to cultivate a winning mindset rooted in discipline, hard work, and divine support “The God factor is key. The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong—it is to those whom God has shown mercy,” Adeboye added.
