Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of providing support to suspected political thugs who attacked him and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Sowore alleged that DSS operatives disclosed his team’s location to the attackers, enabling them to carry out the assault shortly after he concluded a radio interview in the state capital.
The activist made the allegations in a series of posts on his official X account on Friday, October 30, 2026.
In one of the posts, Sowore wrote: “We have been brutally attacked and injured by well armed government-sponsored thugs in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State. The @OfficialDSSNG provided these attackers with our exact location, enabling them to carry out this vicious assault. We won’t back down! We have a country to liberate!”
He also alleged that the attackers came from the Ekiti State Government House and received tracking and operational support from the DSS.
According to him, security operatives had been following and harassing his entourage since they arrived in Ekiti State on Thursday.
Sowore further claimed that DSS operatives threatened the manager of a restaurant where his team had eaten, warning him against allowing them to use the premises again.
Sowore faults police account of attack
The AAC presidential candidate also criticised the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Falade Adegoroye Michael, over the police command’s initial description of the incident as an altercation.
He claimed the commissioner personally visited the scene and witnessed the injuries sustained by him and members of his team.
Sowore said the police description of the incident as a mere altercation and the injuries as minor did not reflect what happened.
He wrote: “The Commissioner saw the injuries, witnessed the aftermath of the violence, and was fully aware of the seriousness of what happened. Yet his Command has chosen to trivialise the attack, even describing the injuries as ‘minor’.”
He also alleged that the police commissioner might have been involved in the incident, although he did not provide publicly verified evidence establishing the allegation.
Police give different account, order investigation
However, the Ekiti State Police Command disputed Sowore’s account, describing the incident as an altercation with unidentified individuals at a restaurant in the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti.
The police said their operatives responded to a distress call, rescued those involved and ensured they received medical attention.
In a statement, police spokesperson Abutu Sunday said Sowore and other affected persons were treated and discharged from the Police Cottage Hospital in Ado-Ekiti.
The command also said Sowore had not formally notified it of his arrival and movements in the state, adding that such information would have helped it make adequate security arrangements.
According to the police, the commissioner had ordered an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.
The command further said efforts to obtain Sowore’s formal statement were unsuccessful because he declined to provide one on several occasions.
As of the latest reports, the DSS had not issued an official response to Sowore’s allegations.
