Rivers Angels won their 10th President Federation Cup trophy on Saturday, defeating Nasarawa Amazons 4-2 on penalties in the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos state.

Rivers state side made a comeback from a two-goal deficit in regular time to win on penalties.

Despite controlling the pace of the game, the Rivers state team fell down after only seven minutes, as Rukayat Shobowale capitalised on a stray ball inside their area to give the Amazons the lead.

Ten minutes later, Shobowale doubled the advantage, giving the Lafia-based team a two-goal lead at the interval.

The Rivers state team maintained their momentum after the restart, and it paid off in the 57th minute, as Taiwo Ajibade pulled one back.

Ex-Flamingos midfielder Taiwo Afolabi equalised for Rivers state team five minutes later.

The Nasarawa Amazons missed the first kick in the shootout, but Rivers Angels converted three consecutive kicks before goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi stopped Ayatsea Hembafan’s attempt.

The keeper then stepped forward to convert the game’s final penalty kick for Rivers Angels, who won 4-2.

    Rivers Angels’ previous victories came in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2024.
