The Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu,, paid a visit to Plateau State on Thursday in the aftermath of the horrific attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North LGA.

During his visit to Jos’ Government House, the IGP, who was greeted by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, denounced the attack on Sunday night and warned that those involved would face justice.

Disu called the killings of people as unfortunate and reprehensible, stating that the police would step up efforts to catch the culprits.

He said that Umar Nadada, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of activities, had already been deployed to the state to assess the situation and coordinate security activities with other agencies.

The police chief also expressed condolences to the state administration and the families of those killed in the incident.

Mutfwang responded by thanking President Bola Tinubu and security chiefs for their support and expressing faith that Plateau will overcome its long-standing security difficulties.

The governor emphasized that instability in the state predates his administration, adding that former governors like as Joshua Dariye, Jonah Jang, and Simon Lalong had dealt with the situation.

“It is when you sit on this seat that you appreciate the magnitude of the problem,” he said.

Mutfwang asked citizens to be attentive and warned against the propagation of misinformation on social media, which he claimed exacerbates conflict.

He also announced stronger enforcement of the ban on commercial motorbikes, which are frequently related to criminal activity, and promised to strengthen the state’s transportation system.

The governor also stated that security officials were already investigating useful leads from the Angwan Rukuba incident.
