President Bola Tinubu consoled a bereaved mother on Thursday after she was seen in a viral video cradling her son’s lifeless body following the recent incident in Jos, Plateau State.

The President, who was in the state on a condolence visit, addressed the woman by name, referring to the viral video that caught her sorrow following the killings in the Angwan Rukuba district.

“I know the pain; I saw how, in the video, you held on to your son, Ayuba, and the pain and agony in your heart, but it’s only God who can give you joy and comfort,” Tinubu said while addressing victims’ families and representatives.

The president added that no amount of compensation could make up for the loss of lives, but assured them of government support.

“No amount of money can pay all of you back. ‘As a government, we will do our best to comfort you,” he said.

“I know the pain; I saw how, in the video, you held on to your son, Ayuba, and the pain and agony in your heart.”

Tinubu had arrived in Jos on Thursday, following last Sunday’s attacks in the Angwan Rukuba district that killed at least 27 people.

He was greeted at the airport by Nentawe Yilwatda, the All Progressives Congress National Chairman, and Caleb Mutfwang, the state governor, among other high government officials.

The President on Monday, condemned the Jos killings as well as a separate attack in Kahir village, Kagarko, Kaduna State, in which wedding guests were allegedly slaughtered and abducted.

Tinubu, speaking through his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, condemned the incidents as “barbaric and cowardly,” vowing to bring the offenders to justice.

While condemning the attacks, the President warned against narratives implying religious motivations, stating that such statements could exacerbate tensions.
