The Benue State Police Command has described the death of Pietier Gilles, a French tourist, in a hotel room in the state’s Gboko Local Government Area as unnatural.

Udeme Edet, the command’s public relations officer, revealed this in an exclusive interview with our correspondent on Monday.

Chronicle NG gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday at the Hotel Jovina, where he had stayed on June 6 before becoming ill but declined to see the clinic.

As his condition worsened, the hotel administration summoned a medical professional for a checkup, but he was discovered dead.

Edet, on Monday, provided an exclusive update on the situation, revealing that the traveller died unexpectedly and unnaturally.

She stated that after getting information about the incident, police officers went to the hotel and took the victim to the hospital.

The Police PRO stated that he was declared dead at the hospital.

She said, “It is a case of an SUD (sudden and unnatural death). When the police got the call, we immediately arrived at the scene, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.

“The case has been transferred to the state CID for further investigation.”

When approached for further information about the incident, the hotel’s manager, Amina Cordial, stated that she was travelling back to Gboko.

“I have not been around because I travelled out of town, and I am just returning to Gboko. So, I don’t have details of the incident.

“But the owner of the hotel is around and must have done all that is needed to be done,” Cordial said.

When our correspondent sought it, she denied providing the hotel owner’s contact information.

It was revealed, however, that the French national, who was a tourist, stayed in the hotel on Friday but became ill on Saturday and refused to be transported to the hospital.
