The Oyo State Police Command on Sunday confirmed the arrest of four suspects and the death of two others during a rescue operation involving the sister of the former Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, Busola, and her two children in Ibadan.
Firearms, including a pump-action gun, were also found during the Saturday night raid in the Ayegun region of the state’s Oluyole Local Government region, which lasted several hours.
The abductees were smoked out of their three-bedroom cottage, where they were hibernating.
On Sunday, while leading journalists around Ibadan, the state capital, the state Commissioner of Police, Oluwagbemiga Abimbola, said, “The police acted on a tip-off, which eventually resulted in the rescuing of the victims.”
It was further gathered that there was a shootout during the operation in which two of the suspects were killed in a midnight raid.
Aside from the four suspects who were apprehended, others fled with bullet wounds.
Chronicle NG reports that Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, Adelabu’s younger sister, and her twin children were kidnapped by gunmen in Ibadan early Wednesday morning.
The kidnap was carried out by armed attackers who were said to have trailed the vehicle conveying the victims from their home before flagging them down at about 7:30 a.m. at the scene of the incident.
However, in a swift operation on Saturday, the victims were rescued by operatives of the Nigerian police and have been united with the former minister of power.
