Olaide John-Paul, the younger sister of Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons have been rescued by police after spending three days in captivity following their abduction in Ibadan, Oyo State.

John-Paul and her children regained their freedom on Saturday after armed men reportedly ambushed and kidnapped them on Wednesday in the Oyo State capital.

Confirming the development, Olayinka Olushola, spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, said the victims were rescued without harm.

“Yes, they have been rescued unhurt,” Olushola said in a text message.

Femi Awogboro, one of Adelabu’s media aides, had said that John-Paul and her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, were kidnapped at about 7:30am while on her way to drop the children at school in Ibadan.

John-Paul is said to be the youngest of Olufunmilayo Adelabu’s five children.

The 43-year-old had worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and First Bank Pension Custodian before voluntarily retiring last year.

“Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children while making preparations to eventually join her husband, John Paul, who had earlier relocated to the United States of America,” Awogboro said.

Olushola said details about their rescue would be shared soon.

The abduction had sparked concern among residents and renewed attention on security challenges in parts of the state. The successful rescue brings relief to the family after three days of uncertainty.

Their release comes amid the continued detention of over 40 pupils and teachers of three schools in Ogbomosho, Oriire LGA, who were abducted on May 15.

The victims, including children as young as two years old, have been in captivity for 22 days.
