Nollywood actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has alleged that the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, avoids participating in competitive primary elections.

Okonkwo made the remark during an interview with ARISE News on Wednesday, stating that Obi’s political judgments are frequently motivated by a desire to avoid open battles.

Obi’s defection from the ADC, he claims, was motivated by a desire to avoid primary elections, not ideological disputes or internal party issues.

“Peter Obi is afraid of free and fair primary elections. He gave reasons of challenges, but his main reason is that he does not want to face the primary election,” he said.

He further claimed that Obi has traditionally relied on political discussions and arrangements rather than competing in competitive primaries.

Okonkwo highlighted Obi’s election as governor under the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, stating that the former Anambra State governor initially lost the party primary before the decision was reversed.

“He has never been in one, and he will not be in one until he finishes his political career,” Okonkwo stated.
