Victor Osimhen scored as Galatasaray overcame Fenerbahce 3-0 in a heated Istanbul derby on Sunday, bringing them closer to a fourth consecutive Turkish Super Lig title.
The Nigerian striker opened the scoring in the 40th minute, commemorating his comeback from injury with a close-range shot that gave the hosts the lead at Rams Park.
Baris Alper Yilmaz extended Galatasaray’s advantage from the penalty spot in the 67th minute, and Lucas Torreira sealed the victory late in the game with a third goal.
The victory increases Galatasaray’s lead over second-placed Fenerbahçe to seven points with four games remaining, putting them solidly on track to regain the league crown.
The clash began with early hostility, with both sides embroiled in a confrontation that resulted in bookings within the first 10 minutes.
Fenerbahce had a chance to take the lead in the 13th minute when they were granted a penalty, but Anderson Talisca missed it wide.
Galatasaray gradually gained control of the game before halftime, thanks to a goal by Osimhen.
Fenerbahçe’s hopes for a comeback were ultimately dashed in the 62nd minute when one of their players was sent off for a second bookable offense.
Galatasaray capitalized on their numerical advantage, with Yilmaz scoring from the penalty spot five minutes later to make it 2-0.
Torreira added the third goal in the 83rd minute, capping off the league leaders’ overwhelming performance.
Galatasaray must retain their lead in the final stretch of the season to secure another league title.
