The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has annulled Edo Queens’ victory over Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifying final following the Ghanaian side’s protest.
Ampem Darkoa had objected to the choice to go straight to penalties once the final finished 2-2 in Ouagadougou on September 5, contending that 30 minutes of extra time ought to have been played as stipulated by the CAF WAFU-B Regulations.
Edo Queens then secured a 4-1 win on penalties, taking the title along with qualification for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
CAF concluded that the final had not followed the competition regulations, since extra time was not played.
Article 72.4 calls for two 15-minute periods of extra time whenever the final is level after 90 minutes, and penalties are only to be used if the teams are still level.
As a result of the ruling, Edo Queens’ shootout win is no longer valid, and the final will restart from the 2-2 scoreline.
The two teams will contest two 15-minute periods of extra time, and if they are still level after those additional 30 minutes, penalties will determine the winner.
Whoever ultimately wins will claim the zone’s qualification spot for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League.
