Elon Musk to launch TruthGPT to rival Microsoft’s ChatGPT

Billionaire Elon Musk said on Monday that he would introduce an artificial intelligence (AI) platform he calls “TruthGPT” to compete with Microsoft’s (MSFT.O) and Google’s (GOOGL.O) products.

He accused Microsoft-backed OpenAI, the company that created the viral ChatGPT chatbot, of “training the AI to lie” and said that OpenAI has now transformed into a “closed source,” “for-profit” outfit “closely allied with Microsoft.”

Additionally, he said that Google co-founder Larry Page had a casual attitude towards AI security.

In an interview with Tucker Carlson that aired on the Fox News Channel on Monday, Elon said, “I’m going to start something which I call ‘TruthGPT’, or a maximal truth-seeking AI that seeks to comprehend the nature of the universe.

TruthGPT “might be the best path to safety,” according to him, and it is “unlikely to annihilate humans.”

It merely began later. However, I’ll work to develop a third choice,” Musk stated.

Newsmen reached out to Musk, OpenAI, Microsoft, and Page for comment, but none of them responded right away.

According to sources familiar with the situation, Musk has been stealing Google’s (GOOGL.O) artificial intelligence researchers in order to found a firm that would compete with OpenAI.

According to a state filing, Musk registered X.AI Corp, a Nevada-incorporated company, last month. Musk was named as the company’s only director and Jared Birchall, the family office’s managing director, as its secretary.

    “Civilizational Destruction”

The action was taken despite calls by Musk and a group of industry leaders and academics for a six-month hiatus in the development of systems more potent than OpenAI’s recently released GPT-4, citing possible threats to society.

During the discussion with Carlson, Musk repeated his cautions about AI, adding “AI is more dangerous than, say, poorly managed aircraft design or production maintenance or bad car production,” according to the excerpts.

It could even destroy civilizations, he claimed.

For instance, he claimed that a very intelligent AI might write exceptionally eloquently and maybe sway public opinion.

He said in a tweet over the weekend that he had met with former U.S. President Barack Obama and advised him that Washington needs to “encourage AI regulation” at the time.

Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015, however he left the board of the business in 2018. He said in a tweet from 2019 that he had to concentrate on Tesla and SpaceX and had quit OpenAI.

Other reasons for his resignation from OpenAI, he said in a tweet at the time, including “Tesla was competing for some of the same people as OpenAI & I didn’t agree with some of what OpenAI team wanted to do.”

Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is now now in charge of Twitter, a social media site that he paid $44 billion for last year.

According to Musk’s comments in the Fox News interview, he recently valued Twitter at “less than half” of the purchase cost.

Microsoft Corp. (MSFT.O) increased its multibillion dollar investment in OpenAI in January, ratcheting up the pressure on competitor Google and igniting the battle for AI funding in Silicon Valley.
