Troops from the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have rescued 27 kidnapped victims in Katsina State following a gun battle with terrorists in Sabuwa Local Government Area.
Chronicle NG gathered that the victims, made up of 15 males and 12 females, were taken from the Gamji community before the troops responded to a distress call on October 16, 2026.
The Media Information Officer of the task force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, made this known in a statement released on Tuesday.
Danja stated that the troops, who chased the terrorists along the Gangare-Kamba axis, confronted them with superior firepower, compelling them to abandon their captives and flee.
“On contact, troops engaged with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon their victims and flee in disarray,” he said.
He further stated that all 27 victims were rescued unharmed when the area was searched afterwards.
He said the rescued victims were profiled and then handed over to community leaders so they could be reunited with their families.
In a separate operation on the same day, troops on a fighting patrol around Kurba village in Kankara Local Government Area came across terrorists riding three motorcycles.
Danja stated that the terrorists fled as soon as they spotted the troops, leaving one of the motorcycles behind.
He noted that these operations showed the sustained offensive stance and operational effectiveness of Operation Fansan Yamma in denying terrorists freedom of action and protecting vulnerable communities throughout its area of responsibility.
The statement further said, “The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, commends troops for their gallantry and swift response.”
The Theatre Commander also assured residents of Katsina, Zamfara, and neighboring states of the task force’s commitment to restoring lasting peace and security.
These latest operations come as the military continues its efforts to combat terrorism, kidnapping, and other security threats affecting communities across Nigeria’s North-West region.
