Manchester City secured FA Cup glory with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Wembley after Antoine Semenyo produced a moment of brilliance to settle a largely disappointing final.
The match struggled to come alive for long periods, with both sides failing to create clear-cut opportunities in a tense and scrappy contest.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 72nd minute when Semenyo delivered a stunning back-heeled finish after meeting a cross from Erling Haaland. The clever flick beat Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and proved enough to hand City the trophy.
Haaland had endured a frustrating afternoon with limited service but remained involved throughout before providing the decisive assist.
The victory ended City’s recent run of FA Cup final disappointments after previous defeats against rivals Manchester United and Crystal Palace. Pep Guardiola’s side also added the FA Cup to the Carabao Cup already won earlier in the season.
City remain firmly in contention for more silverware as they continue their Premier League title chase, sitting two points behind Arsenal with two matches left to play.
For Chelsea, the defeat extended their miserable record in recent FA Cup finals, marking a fourth straight loss in the competition’s showpiece match and ending their hopes of winning a trophy this season.
