    Kwankwaso open to joining APC, but some Kano members not in support – Jibrin

    Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the house of representatives from Kano state, says some stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) are against Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso joining the party.

    Jibrin, a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) representing Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency, spoke on Wednesday when he featured on Politics Today, a programme on Channels TV

    “If you say Kwankwaso is moving into APC, or we are moving to APC, even within the APC in Kano, you have a lot of people that wouldn’t want him to come. Perhaps, those who want to be governor, or those who don’t want to be governor,” Jibrin said.

    He noted that talks on Kwankwaso’s political direction are still ongoing, adding that his personal focus has been on promoting stability and pushing for a government of national unity.

    “I’ve tried to ensure that, in the interest of Kano and Nigeria, there is some sort of stability in our polity — It is quite a complex process.

    “But everyone knows that I’ve always advocated, even right from the beginning of the government, for us to work with a government of national unity.”

    The NNPP lawmaker added that Kwankwaso is still open to joining the APC.

    “As far as that [joining APC] is concerned, he has always maintained that his doors are open, our doors are open for discussions. Everything is a possibility,” he added.

    Kwankwaso had warned NNPP members not to be distracted by defections and coalition talks among other politicians ahead of the 2027 elections.

    Kwankwaso said any negotiations regarding the 2027 general election would be collective, as he believes in party supremacy.

    On 11 August, Jibrin met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja their second meeting in two weeks.

    The lawmaker declined to comment on the purpose of the meeting when asked by State House correspondents.

    Asked if the meeting was part of plans to defect to the APC, Jibrin declined a direct answer but said “everything is open” and “a possibility”.

    “But everything is open, and everything is a possibility. The most important thing is the stability of the country and its unity. I believe that when we get to the bridge, we’ll cross it,” the lawmaker had said.

    Jibrin maintains strong ties with both Tinubu and Kwankwaso.
