Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf personally supervised traffic compliance at Kofar Fanfo Junction on Monday, spending more than an hour ensuring that motorists obeyed traffic lights.

Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, the governor’s spokeswoman, made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Dawakin-Tofa, the governor was joined by the secretary to the state government, commissioners, and other senior government officials during the exercise aimed at restoring discipline and order on Kano’s highways.

Yusuf urged cars, business drivers, tricycle operators, and pedestrians to strictly follow traffic laws, emphasizing that obeying traffic lights is critical to protecting lives and property.

He claimed that his administration planned to reorganize the Kano Road Traffic organization as a professional traffic management organization dedicated to road-user safety.

“The agency will be strengthened to improve traffic control, enforce road regulations, and promote a culture of compliance across the state,” Yusuf was said to have said.

He restated his administration’s commitment to making the transportation system safer, more orderly, and efficient for all inhabitants.

The governor, who voiced displeasure with road users’ carelessness and noncompliance with recently placed traffic lights, stated that such multibillion-naira infrastructure should not be underutilized.

“Traffic offenders should be closely monitored and punished by the relevant authorities to ensure that the equipment is not relegated to merely a city decoration,” Yusuf warned.
