Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has announced plans to establish Cottage Industry and Enterprise Hubs across strategic locations in the state as part of efforts to accelerate industrialisation, promote local production, and create employment opportunities.

The governor made the announcement during the Empowerment Programme for Registered Butchers organised by the Cottage Trade and Street Hawking Agency (CTSHA) at the Government House, Kano.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the project has been captured in the state’s approved 2026 budget.

Yusuf said the proposed hubs would serve as modern production centres for artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs, providing shared workspaces, modern equipment, reliable utilities, storage facilities, business support services, skills development, and organised market access.

He explained that the initiative is designed to improve productivity and enhance the competitiveness of local businesses while reducing operational costs for entrepreneurs.

The governor said the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by encouraging the production and patronage of Made-in-Nigeria goods while also advancing the Kano First Agenda of promoting indigenous businesses and economic growth.

He disclosed that the hubs would feature dedicated sections for butchers, meat processing, leather processing, and tannery operations to strengthen the state’s livestock value chain and attract more investment into the sector.

According to him, the initiative is expected to reduce production costs, improve product quality, expand market access, and generate thousands of jobs for youths in meat processing, leatherwork, packaging, transportation, and other related industries.

Yusuf urged beneficiaries of the empowerment programme to make effective use of the support provided, maintain high standards of hygiene and professionalism, and encourage other eligible traders to register with the agency to benefit from future government interventions.
