Instagram experienced a widespread outage on Tuesday, preventing thousands of users from accessing their accounts worldwide.
According to the outage-tracking website Downdetector, reports of problems began to surge around 10:10 p.m., with over 8,100 users reporting issues as of the time of filing this report. Users attempting to get back onto the platform received “5xx Server Error” messages, indicating server-side issues.
In the United States, complaints began to flow at 4:55 p.m. Eastern Time, with users experiencing issues signing in and accessing the app.
The disturbance caused many users to visit X to see if others were experiencing similar issues.
An X user, simply identified as “#ftperse,” wrote, “Instagram is down when I’m literally working on something important lol.”
Another X user, #AishaAkram56, posted, “Instagram is down lol. What’s happening?”
Speaking on the recurring outages, @theefrzn wrote, “This is almost the third time within a month Instagram has been down. I’m tired, Meta.”
Similarly, #ShutupAyushiii stated that “Instagram being down every two weeks is basically a scheduled feature at this point.”
As of the time of posting this article, Meta had not issued an official comment regarding the cause of the outage.
A week ago, Facebook and Instagram had a huge outage, rendering millions of users worldwide unable to access their accounts.
The outage affected Facebook’s main website, mobile app, and Messenger service, and many users reported being immediately locked out of their accounts.
